Yes We Care Summit
About this workshop :
In an era where social media transcends geographical boundaries, it serves as a powerful platform for uniting caregivers and advocates from around the globe in the field of dementia care. This workshop delves into the many nuances and profound impact of social media in dementia advocacy and caregiver support.
This discussion brings together a panel of social media creators to explore how social media fosters a global community of support learning. Panelists will share their insights on how these digital platforms facilitate the exchange of experiences, strategies and educational content across continents, highlighting the universal nature of caregiving challenges and the solidarity found within the global dementia care community.
Social media is not without its pitfalls, however. It’s important to reflect on the ethical considerations surrounding the depiction of individuals with dementia on social media. The workshop will also adress how certain portrayals and narratives on social media can inadvertently contribute to increasing the stigma associated with dementia and how to navigate misinformation.
Attendees of this workshop will leave with an enriched understanding of the global impact of social media on dementia care, armed with knowledge and strategies to engage ethically and effectively in these international digital communities. This session aims to inspire attendees to leverage social media’s global reach to advocate for dementia awareness, foster international connections and promote ethical discourse, ensuring that the voices of caregivers and individuals with dementia are heard and respected worldwide.
This workshop is part of the planned program for the SilverEco & Ageing Well International 2024 // Yes We Care Summit
