There are 11 million people aged 65 or over in the UK

For the first time in history, the number of people aged 65 years or over has exceeded 11 million, according to Age UK. Additionally:

• There are over 22.7 million people aged 50 years and over (over a third of the total population of the  United Kingdom).
• Nearly 14.7 million people in the UK are aged 60 and above.
• 3.3 million people are aged 80 or over
• The total population of the UK is estimated at 64.1 million people.
