To meet the challenges of the global demographic change, Tarkett, global leader in innovative flooring solutions, is committed to developing solutions that help improve the quality of life of older people and their carers.
A year after launching to healthcare providers FloorInMotion Care, a solution to bring more security and comfort for residents or patients as well as facilitate the work of carers and reassure family, Tarkett is enriching its offer to meet the needs and expectations of residents and their care-givers in senior independent living facility .
The global demographic change
The coming decades will see an increasingly rapid aging of the global population. By 2050, the percentage of people aged over 60 in the world is expected to nearly double from 12 to 22% and there will be three times more people aged over 80 than today (434 million).1
As a result, we’ll face a significant rise in the prevalence of dementia, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. It’s estimated that 46.8 million people worldwide were living with dementia in 2015 and that this number will reach 131.5 million by 2050.2
Age is also a key factor in the risk of falling which represents a major public health problem worldwide. It is the second leading cause of injury-related death, after death due to road accident injuries. And the death rate is highest among those over 60.
The idea behing FloorInMotion Care
The core idea behind FloorInMotion is to “make the floor an active part of its environment through creating connected living spaces that provide an effective service for its users.”
With FloorInMotion Care, Tarkett provides care-givers with a real-time information service available 24h/24 on the activity of residents in their connected living space. Beyond its ability to alert in case of an incident (fall, exit, intrusion), FloorInMotion Care, through the scope of the information it provides, contributes to a more proactive care approach focused on a resident’s well-being.
A system with exclusive advantages
With FloorInMotion Care, Tarkett offers healthcare & senior independent living facilities a discreet, non-intrusive solution that respects the privacy of residents or patients through integrated sensors under the floor.
Advantages of the FloorInMotion care system:
• It is not worn by the resident, so non stigmatizing
• It is invisible and non-intrusive
• With a piezoelectric core, it works independently and continuously without the need for charging
• It is resistant to liquids and operates in wet rooms (bathrooms)
• It is linked to a full range of qualitative and relevant services.
To prevent the risk of falls at night, the system detects any step and activates a light path for easy access to the bathroom thanks to a LED skirting board. For additional comfort, FloorinMotion Care is customizable: you can control other room automation tasks, such as the opening of shutters or turning on the light.
A sensor with unique functionality
– Self-sufficient in energy and generates no electromagnetic interference
– Resistant to liquid on the floor
– Compatible with all Tarkett resilient floors (vinyl, linoleum)
