Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living : bringing technology to seniors
On Thursday the 24th of November, 2022, Amazon announced the launch of Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living, a solution that enables senior living facilities in France, the UK, Italy and Germany to integrate Alexa into their establishments. Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living was designed specifically for the needs of seniors and their caregivers. Alexa allows residents to stay connected, informed and entertained, simply by talking to Alexa.
By speaking to the Alexa assistant, users will have access to a wealth of content at their fingertips. Beyond these features, residents will be able to connect more directly with loved ones through Alexa-enabled device-to-device calls. With this feature, users will be able to interact through video calls.

A useful tool for establishments
Alexa Smart Properties also allows residents to stay in touch with loved ones outside of the facility through Alexa-enabled device-to-device calls. A resident’s family members can easily connect with them through video calls, giving them peace of mind. Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living can on top of that help facility managers tailor resident experiences and promote engagement within their properties by displaying activities, restaurant menus, and important reminders via Amazon Echo Show devices (Alexa-enabled devices with screens).
Caregivers and team members can communicate more effectively with residents using Alexa’s communication features, which allows them to make voice and video announcements and calls, with other Alexa-enabled devices throughout the property. This allows residents of these properties to achieve greater independence through connected home features, such as connected lighting, shutter control or thermostats that allow residents to control their environment with just their voice, which also saves staff time and allows them to focus on higher value activities such as caregiving or socializing with residents.
Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living is integrated with select residences and is now available in France at several Korian Group facilities. The solution, is also available in the UK with Ascom Software at Majesticare residences, and will be available very soon in Germany at the Heinrich-Haus Senior Center (part of the Josefs-Gesellschaft group) and in Italy at a Dussman Group property.

Alexa Smart Properties : deploying with privacy in mind
Alexa Smart Properties’ tools and APIs allow solution providers to manage and maintain a fleet of Alexa-enabled devices quickly, remotely and at scale across a facility. Korian leveraged voice agency Taiwa to create a Skill (voice application for Alexa) and use Alexa Smart Properties to easily deploy and customize a large number of Alexa-enabled devices.
The Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living solution was moreover designed with privacy in mind. Each Amazon Echo device offers multiple levels of privacy protection, and residents can disable Alexa’s ability to respond to the activation word at any time by simply pressing the microphone disable button on top of their Echo device.
